Hi friend, We all overthink. And usually when we do, it leans one way. We pedestalize the worst case. We think of every possible reason why it could fall apart, why it will not work for us, why we are not enough, why someone else is more advantaged or more deserving. That becomes the dominant voice in our mind. But what if you flipped it. What if you gave the same energy to overthinking all the reasons why it could actually work out. The same habit of thought, but inverted. If you are going to let your brain run in circles, why not let it run in the direction of possibility. Here is the trick though. It does not cement overnight. This is not about manifesting in the sense of magically wishing something into existence. It is more like setting the groundwork. You need a vision first. Neuroscience has shown that visualization practice lights up real areas of the brain, the same ones used when you actually perform the skill. So when you visualize best case, you are not playing make believe, you are literally wiring your brain to recognize it as a possibility. Think of it like compounding interest. At first the gains feel invisible, but they add up over time. And just like finance, the earlier you start the more powerful it becomes. Visualization and mental rehearsal are reps. They are sets. And the muscle you are training is the dominant viewpoint in your own mind. At first it feels silly. It feels cringey. There is tension because your brain is so used to running on worst case programming. But that tension is the exact sign you are in the right place. That is the same discomfort you felt when you learned a new exercise or skill. You had to be awkward before you were smooth. So humor yourself. Give it five minutes. Sit with the thought of everything working out. Let yourself overthink all the reasons why it can go right instead of wrong. Ask yourself what if this did work, what if the doors actually opened, what if you really became this person. Watch how that changes the way you feel in your body. Your beliefs influence your actions, and your actions influence your reality. You already know how it feels to spiral in the negative. Nothing changes except your mood. So why not give yourself the experiment of spiraling in the other direction and see what shifts. This is a practice, just like training. You put in the reps, you build the muscle, and over time it becomes your new default. The way you think today is shaping your future. Change the thought habit, and you change the trajectory. From the Desk of Calvin Trieu Unexplored Letters Internal Memo A quick reminder for the middle of the week. Standards aren't something you set once and move on from. They're something you either reinforce daily or quietly negotiate away. Early in the week, it's easy to feel inspired and clear. You reflect, you recommit, and you tell yourself that this time is different. That clarity feels good on a Monday. Almost automatic. Midweek is where that clarity gets tested. This is usually where...
From the Desk of Calvin Trieu Unexplored Letters What I've Been Reflecting On This past week I was down in Tampa, Florida, working with NFL prospects getting ready for the Combine. I was there as a strength and conditioning coach, embedded in a room full of athletes who are four to five weeks away from the biggest job interview of their lives. And I don’t say that lightly. For these guys, a few seconds on the field can mean everything. Contracts. Financial security. Changing the trajectory of...
Mental Performance Letters Hi friends, When you’re born, you look like your parents. When you die, you look like your decisions. Somewhere between those two points is who you chose to become. At the beginning, you don’t know much. You’re a mirror. You model what you see. You copy the people around you. Your parents, your family, your environment, all of it. That’s not good or bad. That’s just how it works. You’re this blank vessel soaking everything in, trying to make sense of what the world...
